Bill Cash MP raises concerns of British Ceramic Confederation with Government
Press release 02/12/09
Further to a briefing from the British Ceramic Confederation, relating to specific difficulties faced by the Heavy Clay Industry, particularly under EU emissions trading rules, Bill Cash MP said:
“I have written to the Government over the issues raised by the Confederation. In doing so, I have raised their summary of priorities to help ensure the continued viability of the Heavy Clay Industry in the UK.
“In particular, I have raised the concerns with the Department for Business Innovation and Skills given that businesses are at risk and market distortions are likely. The Department for Work and Pensions have also been consulted because jobs are at risk.
“I have contacted the Treasury because income, corporation, energy tax revenues, unemployment costs are affected. I have raised the issue with the Department of Energy and Climate Change, given that the substitution of current products is likely with ones made inside or outside Europe with higher or unregulated carbon emissions.
“I have raised the issues as the concern of the UK Ceramic industries in relation to emissions legislation is very serious.”
