Bill Cash discusses mineral extractions with Leader of Staffordshire County Council
Press release 05/08/09
MP for Stone, Bill Cash, yesterday met the Leader of Staffordshire County Council, Philip Atkins, to discuss the issue of mineral extractions within the constituency.
The proportion of minerals extracted from Bill Cash’s constituency in relation to West Midlands as a whole is far too high. The County Council needs to deal with this sub-regional allocation, because the 68% contribution Staffordshire makes each year to the sand and gravel supplies of the entire West Midlands is too high a limit. Mr. Cash and Mr. Atkins agreed to take measures as are necessary to deal with this.
Bill Cash has successfully been involved and appeared at the inquiries on mineral extraction at Maer Hills, Beech, Folly Wood and Moneystone Quarry in previous years. He has objected to mineral extractions at Beech (Swynnerton), Croxden (Checkley), Folly Wood (Loggerheads), Keele Quarry and Factory and Netherset Hey (Madeley), Moddershall Grange (Fulford), and Weavers Hill (Gnosall), in the current round of proposed extractions, and vows to continue his objection to the mineral extractions.
Bill Cash MP calls for Government to review noise and distance limits over wind turbines
Press release 18/12/09
In response to recent reports on wind turbines relating to noise-induced health concerns and setback distances from housing, Bill Cash MP said:
“The recent media reports suggest that the Government may have ignored health concerns related to significantly high noise levels resulting from wind turbines because they had set an unsuitably high limit. This serious concern must be answered.
“Noise levels of 33 decibel limit were ignored because Government officials used a very high 43 decibel limit instead.
“I have written to Ed Miliband, as this cannot be an acceptable way to pursue these schemes, which are also greatly inefficient, uneconomic and packed with subsidies.”
Mr. Cash also continued to raise the issue of setback distances in his letter to the Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change.
Bill Cash MP congratulates Staffordshire Turbine Action Group
Press release 14/09/09
In response to a fun day organised at the village hall, in Uttoxeter Road, on Saturday September 12, Checkley MP, Bill Cash said:
“I really must congratulate Staffordshire Turbine Action Group and everyone involved for the excellent organisation of the fun and information day on Saturday.
“I was very impressed with how much effort had gone into the event. I have always opposed Severn Trent Water putting up a 60-metre anemometer at Checkley Sewage Works and will continue to support and maintain further opposition to wind turbines in Checkley and elsewhere in my constituency.”
Bill Cash MP warns Staffordshire County Council of concerns for public safety, businesses and parking at proposed pedestrian crossing at Upper Tean
Press release 25/11/09
Following objections from local residents on the proposed pedestrian crossing on the A522 High Street/New Road Upper Tean’s pedestrian crossing facilities, Bill Cash MP said:
“This measure for a new crossing was supposed to support the pedestrian flow from the Mill Development from Hall Yard but it creates a dangerous threat to public safety. As Checkley Parish Council have stated, vehicles exiting the Mill Development will be consciously looking left and pulling straight onto the zebra crossing. This is a hazard.
“Those with local businesses will lose parking spaces on the street and it will have a detrimental impact on their business.
“There are also concerns that by taking away the corner of New Road, it will cause people to step onto the road at this point and it is obvious that this will be highly dangerous.”
“I have written to Staffordshire County Council so that they can address these concerns and I would welcome the views of any of my constituents where they are affected by these proposals.”
