Bill Cash MP welcomes Stafford Borough Council’s decision to refuse wind mast at Aston-by-Stone

Press release 19/11/09

In response to Stafford Borough Council’s Development Control Committee refusing the anemometer mast at Aston-by-Stone, Bill Cash said:

“I welcome the Council’s decision to refuse the application for the wind mast at Aston-by-Stone. I had strongly objected to the proposals for a wind mast, on behalf of my constituents, and I praise the efforts of the 'Stone & Trent Valley Opposed to Severn Trent Water' campaign group, and particularly Paul Shaw, Keith Washington, Kev Ryder and all local residents who have opposed this wind mast.

“These wind energy schemes are uneconomic and packed with distorting subsidies.

“I objected to the mast on the grounds that it was in an entirely unsuitable location, it threatened public access, it was a monstrous obstacle on the skyline, showing little concern for the landscape, listed buildings, wildlife and biodiversity, whilst there were concerns over the refusal of the Environmental Impact Assessment and that it was largely an incongruous and alien development.

“There were also outstanding aviation concerns relating to its positioning under an RAF low flying area. I therefore welcome the Council’s decision to refuse the application for the wind mast.”
