Sir Bill Cash MP – Cheadle Hospital beds

Friday, 19 August, 2016

In relation to North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent clinical commissioning groups stating their intention to stop commissioning two community ‘Step Down’ wards at Cheadle Hospital, Cheadle MP, Sir Bill Cash said –

“There will be many of my constituents who require full time care after their treatment, and Cheadle Hospital must be able to make provisions for those patients.

“I have therefore taken this matter up with the Secretary of State, the two local clinical commissioning groups and the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, to urge an alternative solution so that these beds do not close at Cheadle Hospital.

“Proper provision must be made for my constituents who do require a stopover between hospital and home after having had surgery or after treatment for acute or chronic medical conditions.

“A policy of reducing community beds ahead of a winter period also makes little sense, when there is not a clear alternative available.”
