Staffordshire MPs meet with Staffordshire Chief Fire Officer

Press release 03/02/11

At a meeting today of Staffordshire MPs with the Chief Fire Officer of the Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service, it was noted that in Staffordshire there has been an increase of 2% of the resources available to the service as compared to a 7% reduction elsewhere in the country and as much as 13% in neighbouring Shropshire.
The fire service were glad to note that this was the result of representations which had been made to the Government and they had issued 15,000 fire alarms last year which has been a major contributor to improving safety.
Although there were tragically 41 deaths last year, this compares to 270 deaths 12 years ago. The trend is towards greater safety and in increase in resources for Staffordshire under this Government.
